Tuesday 8th June
The Belfry, Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham B76 9PR

10.00am - 3.45pm

What really makes for outstanding learners
See how to shift pupils from fixed to growth mindsets: this conference might change how you think!

NACE is delighted to be co-hosting a conference featuring Professor Carol Dweck. This is part of NACE's work with the world-leading researchers and follows the successful session run last year featuring Professor Joe Renzulli. Carol Dweck's theories about Growth and Fixed Mindsets are applicable to all ages and have particular implications for gifted and talented education.

Programme outline:
Main session: Professor Carol Dweck - 'Wouldn't it be interesting if the fascination comes first and the ability comes second'.
How we can create a climate and curriculum to develop outstanding learners and meet their social and emotional needs.

Panel discussions: Professor Carol Dweck, Dr Barry Hymer and Professor Dona Matthews
Each presenter will explore a rationale for debate, the shift towards the development of generic learning skills, why this is important to them personally from their own research, what attitudes to learning may be engendered, the personal and social attributes and key 'core' skills for learners so that they can develop the growth mindset.

Facilitated group work: Sue Mordecai, Chair of NACE and Hilary Lowe, Vice Chair of NACE, leading national specialists in gifted and talented education, to draw out implications for practice and how to overcome any barriers.
