New for 2025-26, our half-termly member spotlights are live online events, offering the opportunity to hear a leading member of the NACE community share a case study of effective practice for their more able learners. Each spotlight session focuses on a specific initiative, sharing why and how it was implemented, impact on learning, and key tips for effective application or adaptation in other settings.

In this session, we’re shining the spotlight on The Holt School, Wokingham. Assistant Headteacher Emma Salamut-Ward will share details of an independent project initiative which challenged learners to engage critically and creatively with the opportunities, risks and ethics of artificial intelligence (AI). The initiative aimed to help students move beyond a superficial usage and understanding of AI, developing their ability to evaluate its strengths, limitations, and impact on society. It was designed to encourage independent learning, curiosity, creativity, critical thinking, metacognition, communication and research skills, while building students’ confidence in engaging with emerging technologies.

Emma will outline the project implementation and impact, what worked well and what will be further developed, and suggest key issues for other schools to consider.

There will be an opportunity for Q&A and discussion at the end of the presentation.
