As schools continue preparations for the new Curriculum for Wales, NACE is launching a series of webinars and accompanying resources to support ambitious and effective curriculum delivery and design.

The series will launch on 16 June with a free webinar open to all schools in Wales, exploring the pedagogical principles outlined in Successful Futures (2015), which underpin curriculum reform and provide key building blocks for successful learning and progression. Led by NACE Education Adviser Hilary Lowe, the session will explore what the principles mean in practice, supporting schools to move forward with ambitious curriculum delivery through well-developed pedagogical repertoires alongside strong curriculum design.

Ahead of the webinar, schools can download a free resource outlining the principles and their application for more able learners:

·         Curriculum reform in Wales: pedagogical principles to promote challenge for all

·         Diwygio’r cwricwlwm yng Nghymru: egwyddorion addysgegol i hybu her i bawb

“Curriculum reform is long overdue in our nation and we need to continue to commit to that process… Clearly there are challenges ahead and how we can create the space for teachers and learners to engage in the preparation of the curriculum… I do not see the need to make any adjustment to the introduction of the curriculum reform. Even in these trying circumstances we need to commit ourselves to that process.”
– Kirsty Williams, Minister for Education, 14 April 2020

NACE has a long history of supporting schools in Wales through school review, curriculum development and the NACE Challenge Framework. In this new series, NACE will work alongside NACE Challenge Award-accredited schools and partner organisations to explore how the pedagogical principles can be applied to support all learners, including the most able. We hope this will support schools in the review and development of teaching and learning policy and strategies, including approaches to assessment for learning.

Following the initial live webinar open to all schools in Wales, subsequent sessions will be offered for NACE member schools, with accompanying resources and opportunities for school-to-school collaboration. NACE membership is open to all schools.
