Lunch & Learn session 3: feedback for learning for the more able12:15-1:00pm, Friday 19 March 2021 Dr Keith Watson, NACE Associate We know that feedback is key to successful learning and achievement for all learners. An increasing number of studies have focused on the most effective practices, but few have considered these practices from the perspective of more able learners. This session will consider which feedback models are most helpful for those learners capable of the highest achievement, with reference to practical examples taken from recent classroom practice. This session will consider the often subtle differences that can have an impact, recognising that while feedback for more able learners will inevitably have higher-level subject content, it should also: - Emphasise greater responsivity for the pupil in their learning;
- Involve suggestions, what ifs and hints rather than direction;
- Seek to excite and inspire learners to sometimes achieve the fantastic outcome that a more rigid approach to feedback would not.
The series also includes sessions on cognitive load theory, metacognition and instructional models. Read more. Book for the full 4-part series
