Member meetup: Developing intrinsic motivation Free meetup for NACE members Tuesday 16 June 2026 (10:00am – 3:00pm) The Blue Coat School, Birmingham B17 0HR Intrinsic motivation is key to preparing young people for lasting and meaningful success both within and beyond formal education. It goes hand in hand with developing a school culture in which cognitive challenge and desirable difficulty are embraced by and available to all. When developed effectively, internal motivation can help learners to avoid the pitfalls of focusing solely on external factors such as grades and rewards, and to navigate issues relating to perfectionism, pressure and wellbeing. It underpins learners’ agency, independence and ownership of learning, whilst contributing to a collaborative and supportive learning community in which all can flourish. This puts it at the heart of NACE’s vision: ensuring all young people have the opportunity to develop their abilities without limits – no matter what barriers to learning they may face and no matter what school they attend. Free for all staff at NACE member schools*, this event will explore: - The importance of intrinsic motivation across all phases of learning;
- Practical strategies to develop internal motivation as part of a whole-school culture of challenge for all;
- Potential pitfalls or challenges and how these can be addressed.
This event will be suitable for those working across all phases of learning. Register as soon as possible to secure your free place. *As spaces are limited, we are initially limiting free places to a maximum of two per member school, to allow as many schools to participate as possible. If more than two staff members from your school register, we will contact you to confirm which staff members should be given priority. Additional staff members can be added to the event waiting list. If you have registered for a free place and are then unable to attend, please contact NACE in advance to cancel or transfer your place to a colleague. An admin fee of £50 +VAT will be charged if the event is not attended by your school after booking a free place. Full agenda to follow.
