With over 40 years of experience of working in education, Jon is the former Executive Headteacher of Llanfoist Fawr Primary and Llanvihangel Primary Schools. His first headship role was in the capacity as a teaching head. During this period of his career, Jon won the Times Educational Supplement Science Teacher of the Year award. In addition to teaching in both Wales and the United States, previous roles have included Principal School Improvement Officer for Monmouthshire Local Authority, Challenge Advisor Partner for the South East Wales Education Consortium and Team Inspector with the Welsh Inspectorate Estyn. He is currently a Local Authority Governor at his local primary school. In 2018, Prince William awarded Jon the 'Outstanding Contribution Award' for his work in helping to develop the SkillForce Prince William Award. As a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, he has worked with the University of South Wales Newport and the Metropolitan University Cardiff, on the development of strategic partnerships and the transformation of initial teacher education in Wales. Jon has been assessing schools for the NACE Challenge Award since 2007 and has also successfully steered his own schools through to attaining the Challenge Award.
