The national review of curriculum and assessment in England presents a much-needed opportunity to interrogate the purposes of curriculum and 21st century schooling, the fitness of the current National Curriculum and potential reforms needed. Most importantly, the new proposals must go much further than previously in trying to ensure that all young people leave school equipped to realise their ambitions for their personal and working lives, and to contribute to shaping their own and others’ destinies in a more equitable and caring society, along with the courage to face the unknown challenges which lie ahead.

“[The programme has] helped us be self-reflective and refine our provision. It has helped guide us to identify our strengths and areas for development so that we can be strategic in our action planning
to keep making progress. Personally, I feel the process has also helped me to upskill in many areas.”

Why Learning Fails by Alex Quigley
This book explores eight key reasons why learning fails, alongside concepts from cognitive science and research evidence explained concisely and accessibly. Issues include pupils’ limited memory, patchwork prior knowledge, flawed planning, struggles with independent learning, motivation, limits of attention, and more – with real-life examples, steps to success, and practical teaching strategies and tools.
