Happy New Year!
We hope you had a great break, and have had a smooth start to the new term. If you're feeling ready for some fresh insights, energy or connections, we have plenty lined up in the coming month and beyond, including support for curriculum and assessment review; key messages to put into practice from our new publication; and ideas to help your school celebrate the National Year of Reading 2026.
Scroll down for all of the above and more – but first of all, an announcement from the NACE Board of Trustees as we prepare (at the end of the academic year) to say goodbye and a huge thank you to our current CEO.

Announcement for NACE members
Our CEO, Rob Lightfoot, has announced that he will step down in August 2026 after nearly five years leading NACE. The Board of Trustees has begun the process of recruiting NACE’s next CEO. We are committed to finding a successor who will build on Rob’s excellent work and continue to drive NACE’s mission forward. Rob will remain as CEO until August 2026, and we will keep all members and partners updated on the transition.

New NACE publication: get your copy now!
We were impressed to see almost 70% of respondents to the “quick question” in our December newsfeed reported reading 10+ books in 2025. If you’re keen to beat that target in 2026, we have just the book to get you started…
Building on our research into the “why” and “how” of cognitively challenging learning opportunities, the third publication in our “Making Space for Able Learners” series focuses on how schools can ensure this is available to all learners, including those who face a range of barriers to achievement. Available to purchase now individually – or get a special price for the full set of three.
