Exam Nation by Sammy Wright

Exam Nation by Sammy Wright

Despite the title, this book is not just about exams but raises questions about the overall state of the education system today. The Guardian review described it as “[a] journey through the history of English education, its relationship to class, and our exam culture [...] Peppered with anecdotes about young people he has met or taught in his 21-year career, it is rich in analysis of the current problem and in solutions, too.” A great reflective read.

Curriculum and Assessment Review

Open for submissions until 22 November, the Curriculum and Assessment Review consultation presents a much-needed opportunity to interrogate the purposes of curriculum and 21st century schooling, the fitness of the current National Curriculum and potential reforms needed. NACE is calling for an approach which is holistic, vision- and evidence-led, and which makes the leaps needed to ensure all young people leave school equipped to realise their personal and professional aspirations, to contribute to shaping their own and others’ destinies in a more equitable and caring society, and to take on the unknown challenges which lie ahead.
