NACE recommends that emphasis is placed on high expectations and high-quality, challenging teaching for all, with more able learners’ needs met largely through quality-first teaching with an ethos of teaching to the top. This provision can be supplemented,
extended and enriched as needed by focused more able interventions, extracurricular activities and further opportunities. It is essential to remember that, while extracurricular opportunities are important in helping to identify and further develop
abilities and talents, they are not the mainstay of more able and challenge provision. It is the careful crafting and implementation of the curriculum that will provide effectively for more able learners and, as a result, increase levels of challenge
for all.

We have only been a member for one year. In that time, the support received after joining the Challenge Development Programme has given us the tools and ideas needed to begin the process of improving our provision for more able pupils. We have now developed a clearer identification process and we are now delivering regular CPD to staff on how to challenge pupils in lessons. The Framework has many good ideas on how to obtain feedback from pupils and we have been able to construct a development plan. Greg Davis, Arnold Academy
Being a member of NACE has been transformative to my practice in countless ways. The easily accessible online resources should be a first port of call for any teacher or leader looking to challenge all students in their contexts and upskill staff in embedding challenge within their lessons. Better still are the opportunities NACE membership offers to connect and collaborate with like-minded professionals in diverse contexts, including Research & Development Hubs, Member Meet Ups, and conferences. Chloe Bateman, ECF Lead Facilitator, Maiden Erlegh School
The NACE Challenge Award accreditation has provided us with a structured framework for enhancing our provision for more able pupils. The ongoing support from NACE experts have equipped us with the necessary tools to refine our teaching practices and elevate student outcomes. Notably, the positive impact of this initiative extends beyond our high achievers, benefiting the entire learning community by raising the bar for teaching and learning standards. Overall, our partnership with NACE has been instrumental in shaping our educational ethos, ensuring that we remain committed to fostering excellence and inclusivity in all aspects of our school’s journey.
