Member meetup: You, your students and AI: using technology to unlock human potential

Free meetup for NACE members

13 June 2025, New College, University of Oxford OX1 3BN

The AI revolution is here – bringing excitement, anxiety and confusion in equal measures. With new trends and technologies emerging week to week, the way we view and harness the power of AI is very much a conversation in progress – and schools, teachers and students are key voices in this debate.

This NACE member meetup will bring together school leaders and teachers from across our community as the starting point for our own diverse network’s discussions in this space. Join us to hear from leading thinkers in the field, as well as NACE members reporting back on their experiences to date. We’ll explore what AI is (and isn’t), what schools should (and shouldn’t) be concerned about, and – most importantly – consider the vast potential of AI to empower teachers and learners. Together we’ll start to envisage a hybrid future, in which AI is used to free up human time, energy and mental capacity to develop those skills and competencies which matter most: critical thinking and analysis, curiosity, creativity, empathy, ethical judgements, problem-solving, metacognition and more.

Hosted by New College, University of Oxford, the day will include plenty of time to reflect, discuss and share ideas with peers, developing your understanding of how AI can best serve you, your school and your students.

This event is free and exclusively for staff at current NACE member schools*.

Critical digital literacy in an AI world: helping teachers and learners to think hard about AI
Dr Chris Shelton, Technology, Pedagogy and Education Association (TPEA)

As AI becomes integrated into more and more aspects of our lives, we all need to develop the critical skills to think about how this might impact ourselves and others, for example, in terms of privacy, copyright, ownership, creativity, discrimination and many more issues. In this session, we will consider a range of stories and examples that can provoke constructive questions about AI and empower teachers and pupils to think deeply and make informed decisions about how they use AI.

If you become unable to attend, you can transfer your place to a colleague within your school at no charge; please contact us to arrange this. If you register for a free place which is not then used by yourself or a colleague (and you do not cancel with at least 7 days' notice), your school will be charged a non-attendance fee of £50 +VAT.
