About the school
One of the first schools to attain NACE Challenge Ambassador School status, Toot Hill School has attained the NACE Challenge Award four times – showing sustained commitment to meeting the needs of the more able and providing challenge for all. A large, comprehensive secondary school, Toot Hill has just under 2,000 students from Year 7 to Year 13. It aims to provide a broad and balanced curriculum for all, with a focus on high-quality teaching and a wealth of enrichment opportunities that inspire a lifelong love of learning. Embodying the ethos of 'challenge for all', it has designed its curriculum with the more able in mind – ensuring all students receive a learning experience rooted in enriching knowledge, and suited to each subject. Alongside whole-school teaching and learning routines – including First 5, Last 5, Purple Pen to uplift and develop work and questioning for all – Toot Hill School recognises the importance of teachers being able to teach in a way that suits the needs of the class in front of them, and believes its responsive teaching technique is key to the success of its students. More able learners report enriching experiences across the school. No two lessons are the same, and learners are purposefully taught core and ambitious subject knowledge alongside skills to develop them into motivated, hardworking and active citizens.
