About the school

Nettlesworth Primary School is a very small school located in a semi-rural setting, close to Durham City. Approximately a third of pupils are eligible for free school meals.

With a longstanding commitment to meeting the needs of more able learners and ensuring challenge for all, the school attained the NACE Challenge Award for the third time in 2021. Alongside a strong focus on inclusion, outstanding teaching and learning, and creating an environment in which every child has the opportunity to flourish, the school strives to ensure learners have access to a wide range of experiences and opportunities, individualised to their personal needs and interests. Parents are also closely involved in their children's learning.

During this NACE Challenge Award School Experience event, Nettlesworth Primary School will focus on: the journey to gaining Challenge Award accreditation and reaccreditation; improving the quality of teaching and outcomes for learners; and how the NACE Challenge Framework criteria can be used to create a whole-school ethos of success. The school also has experience to share on pedagogical techniques that support more able neurodiverse pupils and create inclusive classroom environments; and collaborating effectively with parents, carers and other professionals to meet individual pupil needs.

Who should attend?

This opportunity is aimed at school leaders, more able coordinators and others leading on provision for more able learners and high attainment in a school or group of schools. It is open to leaders and practitioners from all phases, sectors and stages of development in provision for more able learners – including schools with no previous experience of the NACE Challenge Framework, as well as those already using the Framework and/or holding the NACE Challenge Award.
