How to develop news literacy in schools
Tuesday 27 February 2024
4.00pm – 5.00pm | Open to all schools
This free live webinar is presented in partnership with The Day – host of the Global Young Journalist Awards, which NACE is proud to support. The Day turns the news into lessons, to help schools engage young people with current affairs while developing key skills and knowledge for the future – including critical thinking, independent research, digital literacy, global awareness and oracy.
Presented by The Day’s Matt Bosica, alongside expert panelists, this session will focus on sharing practical examples of how schools can develop news literacy and related skills, across a range of phases and curriculum areas.

Making Space for
More Able Learners
NACE is committed to investing in developing and disseminating education research to support evidence-informed teaching and learning, with a focus on effective provision for more able learners and increasing challenge for all learners. We have been exploring two key strands in greater depth for the second phase of our ‘Making Space for Able Learners’ project.
The first of these, focusing on effective approaches to assessment in cognitively challenging classrooms, is being launched this month and a digital copy will be available free for members via our website.
Printed copies will also be made available for sale to members and non-members alongside a second edition of our existing publication. These will be available later this academic year.

NACE Challenge Award Accreditations
Congratulations to Holme Grange for achieving Challenge Ambassador status and becoming our 4th Challenge Ambassador school.
"Academic excellence is valued but it is not restrictive and supports attainment across the curriculum. A culture of researching the ‘how’ not merely the ‘what’ of teaching is being pursued in varied and exciting ways. This includes the effective use of an exceptional range of professional development opportunities such as training on neuroscience for teachers with clear impact. Students embrace challenge and aim to achieve ‘Confidence and Success for All’. Challenge is not just for the more able. All students are encouraged to challenge themselves and reach their potential. The pastoral care of students is a key component of the success of the school. Teachers often go ‘above and beyond’ which was recognised by an older student who said a strength of the school was, ‘the availability of the teachers and how open they are to supporting you’. Talents are nurtured by staff with a rich array of enrichment opportunities available meaning students flourish across and beyond the curriculum."
